An important part of my daily life is the internet. I use it to do homework, watch my shows, play video games, talk to friends and family, almost everything relates back to the internet. So for #VisualAssignment1549 I decided to making a warning sign about bad wifi connection to warn others from the horrors of bad wifi. I wanted to include parts that are relevant to everyone such as Netflix and also add a comical twist.
To start out this process I decided to use Microsoft Word. This allows me to add images and text easily so I felt it would be the most fitting. I added my text first so that I would know what I was working with. I used a center alignment with my font in all caps.
I then used Google to find the images I wanted to use for my warning sign that would fit into the overall aesthetic. I also changed the font to bold and Avenir Black for all of the words.
Finally, I rearranged and resized my images and text until it all fit on one page and looked pleasant to the eye. My Creation
Here is my finished warning sign. I think it is relatable to most people I know and it also has a since of humor. Netflix has become a stable of entertainment and Starbucks is also widely used for wifi and not coffee so it warns people of a not big problem and gives them a solution.
I decided to do #VisualAssignment1660 because in the modern age of the selfie I knew I had many pictures of myself to use and plenty of interesting faces. I thought this would be a good way to capture the many faces of Morgan Moncrief to look at in the future.
With the creation of the internet it has become much easier to learn about and see places you may not have seen otherwise. Any time I go on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter my feed is always filled with pictures of exotic destinations which gave me the idea to do #VisualAssignment1674. While I have many dream vacation spots I decided to cut it down to the 5 necessary for this collage assignment.
To start off my collage I started to look for interesting locations. While a simple “vacation spots” Google search turns up images of bright blue lagoons so I decided to search for some more specific locations for my collage. The places I decided on were England, Fiji, Hawaii, Iceland, and Santorini. After deciding on these images I need to choose a collage maker. For this I used Photo Collage Maker- CollageFactory Free available on the iTunes App Store.
After downloading this app I opened it on my computer. I clicked on ‘FreeStyle’ which is the second option on the left under ‘Collages’. From here I clicked on ‘Free Style 5-1’ and pressed ‘ok’.
Then I clicked the image at the bottom left side of the screen which is a box with a green plus sign on it. After clicking this you choose what images to upload. After adding them all of your images will appear on the left side of the screen.
I then dragged each image into a box on the right side of the screen. Then I changed the margin lines by dragging the scale to zero. After this my collage is complete.
To start off my spubble for #VisualAssignment190 I first looked through my own images until I came across one that I thought was funny on it’s own but would be even funnier with a text bubble. For this I decided on a screenshot I had taken of my boyfriend while on Skype of him making a funny face with 2 Pringles in his mouth while his german shepherd Diamond is sitting beside him looking at him longingly. I always see funny pictures of dogs with their owners so I felt like this gave me a lot to work with.
Creating my spubble started with a simple Google search. I searched “how to add speech bubble to photo” and clicked on the first result which was for www.lunapic.com
After clicking the website link I was brought to a page showing a variety of speech bubbles. I clicked the ‘cloud r’ one because I thought that bubble would fit best with the photo I chose.
Next I clicked ‘choose file’ and clicked the photo I wanted from my computer and then pressed ‘upload now’.
After it was uploaded it takes you to the next page where I adjusted the size of my speech bubble by dragging the corners and moving it into place then pressed ‘apply’.
It then takes you to the next page with the completed image. On the lefthand side of the website there are other ways to edit photos so this is how I will be adding the text into the bubble by clicking the ‘T” which is the second option on the left.
On the next page it gives the option to change the text size, color, font, and other options. Here I changed the font size to 9 and the color to black by clicking ‘pick’ and then the top left color. I then clicked ‘apply text’ which by clicking the text in the image allows you to move it into position.
After this you press ‘save’ at the bottom of the page and the image is done.
This is my finished spubble. I decided to add the text “What big lips you have..” in a way to spoof the Red Riding Hood tale where she says to the wolf “Grandma, what big teeth you have.” I thought this was fitting since it is a human looking funny and a dog being confused.
For the photo safari I decided to do it in my bedroom since there are a lot of knick knacks lying around so I would have a lot of options. I also enlisted my boyfriends help in completing this activity because I thought it would be a fun thing for us to do together and he could also help me set up and take the pictures. I completed all of the photos except for “represents a metaphor or complexity” since it was at the bottom of the list and required more imagination than the others. The hardest one for me to do was the “two things that don’t belong together” because I was trying to place my cat and dog next to each other without them running away so this took up the most time. My favorite picture is my abstract image which is a photograph of my white dreamcatcher in front of a bright light. I also liked how the unusual angle image turned out with most of the photograph being darkness and then the lamp goes up into the only source of light. Overall I had a fun experience doing this assignment. The only thing I would do differently is to do it during the day instead of at night so that the lighting would have been better and I could use the outdoors for pictures.
My Youtube account is my baby. Instead of watching TV I usually watch YouTube videos (or Netflix). I’m a really big fan of the beauty and gaming communities on YouTube. I also have uploaded multiple school projects here so here’s a link to a funny video I did with my friends in the Fall of 2015:
