On my next design assignment I decided on “We’ve Got You Covered” which is worth 4 stars. When I was in middle school I was obsessed with magazines like Teen Vogue, Seventeen, Cosmopolitan, and everything else in the grocery store check out line. Since then my love for glossy covers has died down to just the occasional read while in the airport but I thought this would give me the opportunity to mix all my favorite things into one magazine. Many publishers focus on one niche and that is all they discuss. For example Seventeen talks about young high school girl issues. I decided this assignment would allow me to mix in my love for fashion with my interests in cars, love life, and video games. The name I decided on for my magazine is “M” in the style of Oprah’s “O” magazine.
For this assignment I am once again using PowerPoint. While it may be an unconventional photo editor I think it does just what I need it to and it is readily available to me. The first step was to decide on a picture I wanted to use as the cover art. Many magazines use celebrities as their cover stars so I decided on a picture of myself since it is my magazine (just like Oprah). To add my picture into PowerPoint I clicked “insert” -> “photo” -> “picture from file” and selected the picture I wanted. I have done this same type of work before which can be seen in a previous assignment about funny animal edits.
Now that I have my picture imported I must add the text. To do this I click “insert” -> “text box” then click on where I want the words throughout the picture. I am doing multiple boxes in different fonts, sizes, and colors. All of these can be found in the “format” section after you have placed your text box.
Overall I think my magazine cover turned out pretty good. I tried to pick concepts that represented me such as Game of Thrones, makeup, gaming, and a homage to my flower crown through the Snapchat article.
