Stop *Sticking* Around!

For my first animated gif assignment I decided on “Best Sports Play” which is worth 3 stars. My boyfriend and his family are huge Pittsburgh fans. Be it the Penguins, Steelers, or Pirates they watch every game and go to multiple games every year. So it is only fitting that I have also had to take part in these rituals as well. Especially recently with the Stanley Cup quickly approaching I have been watching lots of Penguins hockey games. I’ll admit I wasn’t very familiar with hockey until recently (I just went to my first game this year, it was the Capitals vs. the Flyers on April 22nd) so I’m no hockey expert but I think I’m good enough to make a gif about it. The scene I chose to make a gif of is from the Penguins vs. Capitals game on April 28th, 2016 where a hockey stick got stuck in a players helmet. I had never seen this happen before and I don’t think this is a common occurrence so I felt it would be the perfect play for the job. I’m not sure if the opposing team did this on purpose to create distress for the player so that they could have an advantage, but if they did it was genius.

To start off my gif I have to choose a website to make my gif. I am very familiar with and have used it multiple times in the past so that is the generator I will be using today. Giphy doesn’t require you to have an account so I simply clicked “Create” at the top right and started making my gif.

The next step is to retrieve the url of the video you want to create and insert it into the white box at the top of the page and it will automatically load the video below.

After this I scroll down the page and decide when I want the gif to start and how long I want the gif to be. For this I decided to start at 10 seconds which shows the fight that causes the stick to get stuck in his helmet. I made the gif 10 seconds long to show him trying to remove the stick from his helmet and then continue to play. I recommend watching the gif a few times and messing with the lengths to achieve desired results.

If you continue to scroll down the page if gives you options to add captions and tags to your gif but I did not feel the need to do that. All that is left is to click “Create Gif” at the bottom of the page.

It will load and take you to another page. This page gives you the option to share your completed gif!

My Creation

So here is my finished gif. It shows the the fight that causes the notorious sticking and then the player attempting to keep playing but having difficulties. I think this gif captures this interesting play and also includes some humor.
